Engaged 12/10/11
For those of you who have been asking :)
First, I must say I am extremely impressed with everyone who knew for so long and hid it.
Before I begin my story I have to set the mood on my thoughts that night. I truly had no idea the “question” was coming. Less then two weeks ago, I woke up to a text message from delton asking, “Can you send me your parents phone numbers?” Now for someone trying so hard to be patient, that was not exectly my favorite text message. I was a little upset because I thought that meant he had not even talked to my dad. This was the reason that I was NOT expecting to get propsed to last night. I thought there was no way he talked to my parents in the last two weeks because I knew he wanted to go see them in person. Well to my surprise he went up to Orlando and asked my parents back in October!
Now on to the engagement. I had been up since 5am working that morning, and delton had been up since FRIDAY moring working overnight shifts and delivering mail during the day. (Yes, he propsed with at least 30 hours of NO sleep under his belt… impressive) Anyways, so we both had just gotten off work and decided to go to Panera for a late lunch. This is where we first. I am pretty sure I didnt even really talk to him that night haha. I made him work a little :) Anyways, then we went to Barnes & Nobles. We just sat on a bench and looked through magazines together, laughing at all the funny things in magazines.
Then we drove to the intercoastal. When Delton and I first began to spend time together, we would talk walks EVERY night along the intercoastal to a place called the “Big Tree.” This location is on the otherside of the intercostal on an island. So we had to walk over a bridge to get there. The “Big Tree” is just a big tree along the water. I know, well named. There is a bench by the tree that overlooks downtown West Palm Beach city. It is beautiful at night. When Delton and I first started dating we took walks there every night, sometimes until 5 or 6 in the moring. (That was my worst semester of grades in college haha) The “Big Tree” is also where Delton asked me to be his girlfriend.
Back to last night, Delton and I walked to the “Big Tree” around 5:00pm. I was rambling as usual about the clouds, sunsets, and jumping fish in the water. Then suddenly, Delton looked at me and said, “Don’t say what.” I gave hime a weird look, and again he said, “Don’t say what.” (Side note: when Delton first asked me to be his girlfriend my response was “What?”) I was still confused at what he was talking about. Delton put both hamds on my face and began to smile and told me to focus.
Then before I knew it, after 2.5 years of dating and in the same location where it all began, Delton was down on one knee asking for me to be his wife. At first I was scared to look down, but when I did I saw the most beautiful ring ever, and I wanted to say, “What?” So instead, I asked him, “Are you sure I can’t say what?” Then, I immediately said YESSSSSSSSSS. But then I freaked out for a second and asked if he had asked my Dad. Remeber, I thought there was no way he talked to my parents because he asked for their numbers two weeks ago. He said he talked to them back in October.
The “Big Tree”
Next out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone talking a picture. At first, I thought it was a random tourist because we were along a public hiking trail that runs along the intercoastal. Then I realized it was one of my best friends AMANDA JOHNSON. I looked back at Delton began crying and gave my future husband a kiss. I next turned around and saw MICHELE KAPPAS, KATE VERLIZZO, JENNY HINDRIKSEN, JON YOUNG, and MATT JOHNSON. I was so excited to see all my friends and just hugged them.
After finally gaining control of myself, we all went back to my apartment where MORE friends where waiting for our arrival. We just ate food, talked, played catch phrase, and enjoyed fellowship together. Thank you to all my family and friends who help make this night PERFECT. Thank you for all your love and warm wishes. I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many people who have such giving hearts.
As a final note: I want to also point out that Deton had my ring designed after my purity ring, because I had always said how much I loved my purity ring band but could never find a wedding ring in sotres with the same design. Some retail lady even told me that most major ring stores will not have bands designed like my purity ring. Delton went above and beyond to match the band of my wedding ring to the design of my purity ring. He had some one make a custom mold to create my ring band. It is one of a kind!

I have been reading through the Psalms lately, and I’ve found it to be imparting because the words I am reading seem to reflect the emotions I am feeling. In my own life, I go from feelings unsatisfied, impatient, and restless to desperately seeking contentment and joy from the Lord. My thoughts drift somewhere between trying to learn how to live day-by-day and the uncontrollable excitement for what God has for me in the future.
I am not sure what the proper balance between is between living today to its fullest and looking toward the future for what God has in store. I know God has great and wonderful plans for my life and I want to follow that path to the best of my ability. However, sometimes the knowledge of a “better future” causes me to be exceedingly impatient and restless. I feel like I am wasting time; I should be doing something greater. Yet, I know now is the time where I am being told to wait and stop making plans but blindly follow the Lord… which is not my strong point!
Psalm 16
1 Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”…

Jeremiah 9-16
9:24 “But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.”
11:4b ”Listen to my voice, and do all that I command you. So shall you be my people, and I will be your God.”
*What a beautiful promise
12:1-17 *In chapter 12, jeremiah is asking why good things happen to evil people. The Lord answers and tells Jeremiah that the evil people will in time receive their punishment. I think it is important to remember that Christ will punish his people when and how he chooses.
*Another thought I had regarding this chapter is that so may times we envy the prosper times of other people. However, I know that with out all the trials I have gone through I would NOT have learned more about Christ and my faith would NOT have grown. So why envy the evil person? Maybe Christ is not even wasting his time trying to teach them his righteous way. The Lord is not teaching them anything. I need to learn to rejoice in my trials because it means God is taking his time to refine my faith or punish me for my sins because, as a parent punishes a child out of love, so Christ gives me trials to in the end have a healthier, stronger, and more beautiful community with himself.
15:20b “They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, declares the LORD.” -
